Five minutes with Keanna

Today Keanna Reeves, winner of Celebrity Pinoy Big Brother, visited us at the Batasan. It was so different the last time she came in 2004, when she was taking the heat from the Senate for refusing to divulge the names of politicians hiring the services of escort girls like her. At that time, Gabriela came to her rescue, giving her much needed support for her decision to tell the world the truth.

Today, Keanna came to return the favor to Gabriela's Liza Maza and the rest of the Batasan 6. On her blouse she had pinned a yellow butterfly, which, she said, symbolized her metamorphosis from controversial escort girl to respected celebrity. Coincidentally, the butterfly is the adopted symbol of Gabriela's campaign against political persecution called "Free our sisters, free ourselves". Tamang-tama.

And so there were, sort of starstruck, basking in Keanna's rebirth and newfound fame. Joel's kids asked for her autograph. The congressional staff couldn't get enough pictures of her ("Pwede magpa-picture? Paborito ka ng apo ko!"). She happily obliged, even signing a letter-petition to free Ka Bel.

And for Pres. Arroyo, these words of wisdom: "Alam n'yo, ako strong din akong babae mula noong maliit pa ko.

"Kaya open your heart po.
