Mamas Love to Rock

Last weekend my two sons Niko, 21 and Anton, 15 came to visit. Huddled together in the dark of night, we started to talk about the what ifs of our situation. We talked about the possibility of my arrest and detention and about their future when it happens. We managed to put off discussing this for forty-one days until that Saturday, April 8. After some time, Niko sensing these depressing thoughts and wanting to calm our souls suggested that we talk about the topic that the three of us love – music.

They talked about Steve Vai and how good a musician he is. “Malupit sa gitara, astig” is how Niko describes him. He said he knows good music when he hears one, be it classical or rock. That music is mathematics. It has to be precise and a good musician must have the precision and technique that can only come out from study, practice and a large dose of discipline. He further said that maybe his ear for good music was developed early when inside my womb he could hear the classical music I used to play on my tape recorder.

That night while Niko and Anton were fast asleep, I listened to Steve Vai’s Beethoven’s 5th. He is good, divine. Crossing close to two hundred years, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 is as beautiful as ever. Steve Vai’s rock music rocked me to sleep. Half awake and maybe half asleep, I thought about mathematics, music and mass movement. How in these three fields “precision and technique that can only come out from study, practice and a large dose of discipline” as how Niko puts it, is very important.

I wondered too if mamas always loved to rock. Have they not been doing so since the beginning of humankind? Before Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, Pepe Smith, Sampagita, Mike Hanopol and Asin’s folksy rock? There is a truism in the feminist saying written on a poster that hangs on the wall at GABRIELA’s office. It says: The hand that rocks the cradle should also rock the boat.

Yes, Mamas do love to rock.

Mabuhay ka Cong. L. Maza!

Yes indeed the hand that rocks the cradle also rocks the boat.

women influence is surging in south america, europe, and korea...
and they are left leaning! Go girls!

Just sad that on the other side center-right winger women are also on power, the hawkish condolence rice (as nick named by Pres Chavez) and the cheater GMA. But nevertheless, the sympathy of the world are to those who marched against tyranny, war, repression and injustice.

Don't be daunted... ngayon pa.

Go on the fight, don't mind those pricks that's trying to let our fight down... they are a bunch of losers.

Astig ka ma'am liza! Favorite mo rin pala si Steve Vai? Wala ka dyang Joe Satriani o di ba kaya Eric Johnson o Yngwie Malmstein? They are of the same genre. A genre that is verily a part of the protest movement that sprang in the early 60's and came to our shores as the First Quarter Storm!

Don't just rock ma'am! Make a storm! Storm the heavens, este Malacanang. Walang bayag yung nakatira doon!

Fly high Batasan 6! ! !

I just came accross this blog and all i can say is that it is a long time coming! The present adminstration has been suppressing the media and this has deprived the people with its right to know what is the real deal in its entirety. It is our right to know what is happening with the government! It is ours in the first place… not Gloria’s. Using technology to feed information about what is happening in our country could be our answer to her suppressive means… I hope this blog will not stop as it is right now but rather evolve as a means in which Filipinos can inform each other and express their opinions…

We are moved that in the midst of the ugliness and cruelty of government persecution, you can still think of and savor music. Please know that this past weekend, in San Francisco, women wept in rage and sympathy when they heard your voice over the phone.

Ma'am Liza,

Napakaganda ng sharing mo bilang nanay. It shows your humanity to all bloggers who read it.

By the way, if one would compare you to GMA, ang laki naman ng dipresenya. I am sure na compared to GMA kids, your rocker sons do not have to lie or swallow their spit when they say something good about you.

Carry on the fight!

Thank you, Honorable Liza Maza, for sharing your private moment with Niko and Anton. Your post shows a human face to political persecution.

We in GABNet are fond of transforming rock songs into political songs. We dedicate this one to you... BREAK THE WALLS OF EMPIRE (to the tune of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick on the Wall" and don't forget the claps or base in between lines)

We don’t need no GMA nation.
We don’t need no martial law.
Blatant lies about Liza Maza.
Hey, women! Let’s oust GMA!
All in all we are gonna break down the wall.

Yes, women rock. Sulong, kababaihan!

We got your back, always.

Dear Liza,

Last time, nagusap tayo sa sitwasyon ng Pilipinas.

Mahirap maging lider masa.

MAGPAKATATAG!

Ka. Al

Madam Liza, you are doing a great job there. Keep it up!

Have you ever figured out why GMA wanted you out? Pardon me for the unsolicited opinion. As a woman, she probably couldn't accept that Filipinas like you would dare to criticize her. That pinays of all persuasion should be in league with her, regardless of what she does. It's too bad that you became the experimental guinea pig, as a sample, to teach Filipino women a lesson. The easiest way to do it is to look for a vulnerable enemy to justify such a horrendous act. Labeling you and the other Batasan 5 as "commies" provides the legal scapegoat, as if we still lived during the McArthy era of the 50s and 60s. I see no rational basis for this.

Come to think of it. Gloria is paranoid, among her worst critics there are women, particularly those in the media. I can only sense one or two women journalists, or apologists, at her side. The rest obviously gang up on her for masquerading behind the sweetness of the feminine. Ironically, she also learned how to show "balls" to intimidate, bluff or buy off our macho-oriented institutions. She seems to be succeeding, at least for now.

Congratulations sa inyong lahat for standing up! We are behind your cause. We just don't know what to do with such a leech as Gloria and her cohorts. But the fight is still on. Truth, social justice and good will prevail in the end because they have their own inherent power and strength. Fight on and don't loose heart.

Haaaaay naku!

And here is another Anonymous na bayaran ng kampo ni Gloria!

Balutan ka nawa ng kasigasigan at kapayapaan.

kaiba sa mga misguided anonymouses, na nagsasabing walang nagawa ang batasan 6 sa kongreso, i would like to say...

maraming salamat liza maza!
