Charter Change and mining

Among the deceitful Malacañang agenda to amend the 1987 Constitution is to pave the way to intensified environment and economic degradation due to liberalized mining.
We firmly believe that Arroyo’s charter change drive also aims to add more teeth to the already notorious 1995 Philippine Mining Act (Republic Act 7942), that the Supreme Court again affirmed last year. The decision of the high tribunal declaring the constitutionality of Section 76 of R.A. 7942 and its implementing rules and regulations was expected.
However, no amount of touted revenues and compensation can pay for the permanent damage to the environment, the displacement of indigenous communities, and the loss of lives and livelihood that will result from large-scale mining.
It is frustrating that the lessons from our people’s tragic experiences with large-scale foreign mining in Boac, Marinduque, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, Rapu-rapu, Albay, Didipio, Nueva Vizcaya, Surigao del Norte, and other areas are ignored by the national government. It should be noted, however, that no measures have been put in place to reverse the continuing damage to the environs and people of the said areas.
We challenge the Supreme Court justices to go to these areas and see for themselves what the local communities have lost: indigenous peoples’ ancestral domain, once productive farmlands, pristine rivers, and marine ecosystems. This may help them see the anti-Filipino and anti-environment nature of RA 7942.
The full-blown implementation of a liberalized, privatized, and deregulated mining industry will come into reality once charter change has been enacted. The constitutional overhaul will allow 100% foreign-ownership of our lands and the exploitation of our natural resources. Charter change will actually further open the country to unbridled foreign exploitation and plunder
Under the current Constitution, land ownership is reserved for Filipinos so that our people should have the priority to develop our resources for the good of the country.
The proposed Constitutional amendments for liberalization will further aggravate landlessness, land-use conversion, the whole-sale exploitation of our natural resources, food insecurity, and the destruction of the environment. Filipinos will be deprived of the right to use the country’s resources for their own benefit. Local industry and agriculture, which cannot compete with big multinational companies, will also be destroyed.
We will heighten opposition to the Arroyo-engineered Charter Change and continue to work for an alternative people’s mining policy.

To say that mining is one of the reasons to amend the constitution is a presumptuous contention that we, the silent majority, won't throw our towels in. Accusation at allegation na naman ba? Wala na bang iba?

If mining is one way to explore and make use of our natural resources to uplift our lives, support the economy, generate jobs and revenues then so be it. God gave us these resources, we must put them into use and at the same time, we Filipinos must also slow down our population growth. Let us support our government, put our faith and trust in our leader and not pull her down. Tama na po ang crab mentality. We're fed up of all these too much bickerings. Let's all work na lang towards making our country an industrialized nation.

To anonymous na pala mura;

Whatever your opinion you don't need to ridicule anyone or show your arrogance by using "mura". Is this the type of person you are telling us we need to believe in? You are keeping GMA stays in power because by showing your attitude you make people think twice even they have bad feeling with the government.

if you are really looking after the welfare of the poor Filipinos, then get rid of the NPAs in the provinces. if you do that, i will join your org.

"Accusation at allegation na naman ba? Wala na bang iba?"

allegation ba nag marcopper incident?

"If mining is one way to explore and make use of our natural resources to uplift our lives, support the economy, generate jobs and revenues then so be it." yes indeed noli, but you forgot to mention that the mining that is being advocated by you is wanton destruction of lands, mountains, reivers, the entire ecological order. batasan6's advocacy in mining is controlled mining, mining for domestic use (raw materials as iron ores, copper ores, chromite) for use in the true and genuine philippine industrialization.

What the foreign firms do is ransacking, depriving our own nation for our own use. I give you proof, why do you think national steel corporation was sold? simply because foreign mining firms took our ores for refinement in other countries in other words these firms exported it as raw materials with the minimum taxes, duties and royaties to our treasury, refine it, then re-exported to us from their countries with their maximum profits, and as little import duties and taxes. get the point?

Batasan6 and us their supporters are never against industrialization or mining in this case, only that these mining act will never work for us, or to you. i-dagdag mo pa ang 100% foreign ownership sa mga base industries gaya ng pagmimina na sinusulong ng cha-cha (abolition of patrimony clasue ng constitution).

This is the best argument so far from Pinoy!

Let me answer that in that same logic. If our natural resources is not only for our own use, then the entire world should have a right to persuade US to use it's huge oil reserve in texas, new mexico, alaska and caribbean for refinement and distribution for the whole world's use to stop the world wide increase in oil prices.
it's called sovereignty my dear pinoy, and every american will fight for that right for their sovereignty (please correct my spelling i'm an engineer not an english major) gets mo?
